1880
In Montfoort the "Eerste Nederlandsche Houten Wielen Fabriek H.J. Van Rooyen en Zn" is established. In addition to the production of wooden wheels, a number of wood products were manufactured including wooden chop blocks for butchers.
The production developed via coaches to cabins (bodies) and loading platforms for lorries. In a later stage touring cars were produced. A popular quality product. The name was changed into “Van Rooijen Carrosseriefabriek”. The last success was the development and construction of the (touring car) Odyssee.
1982
The business was taken over by Den Oudsten Bussenfabriek from Woerden. A well-known community busses factory that wanted to develop and manufacture touring cars in Montfoort. Through the limited scale of the project it never became a big success.
1988
Restructuring to a modification company for light commercial vehicles under the name Den Oudsten Specials. The modifications included: double cabins, the so-called contractor versions, raised polyester roofs, furnishing and lining of loading platforms.
1989
The first closed, fully finished body left the factory. To be mounted on the chassis by bodybuilders in a very short time An entirely new concept in the bodybuilders sector with the product name "cityBOX" was born ! The slogan was: “Buy today, drive tomorrow ”. The basis concept developed at the time still exists in broad lines. In the first year of production, 400 cityBOXES were delivered to dealers.
1996 CITYBOX continues independently
After a management buy-out, the company CITYBOX was established. Under the name "New Generation", the market share increased significantly (more than 25% in 1998) and the export grew. Unique in those days was the warranty period of no less than 3 years!

The period from 2001 to 2004 was a tumultuous one. After various takeovers, CITYBOX started up again in 2003, resulting in a new solid base in 2004.

Since 2003, new formulas have been added. One of those formulas concerns the Turn Key delivery of closed loading platforms for vehicles to importers such as Iveco Nederland, Pon’s Automobielhandel, General Motors, Mitsubishi Motor Sales Nederland and Renault Trucks Nederland.
From the order by the importer, CITYBOX ensures the entire trajectory via its dealer network up to the delivery to the commercial vehicle dealer. This enables the bodybuilders to strengthen their relations with the commercial vehicle dealers who, in their turn, can rely on excellent service and maintenance.
Early 2007, sales in Scandinavia were launched. This takes place via the own sales organisation Scandinavië: "CITYBOX Skandinavien".

As from 2008, CITYBOX is expanding its production facilities on a new location. Thanks to the removal we have now realized a logistic advantage sothat the production process runs more efficiently and more environmentallyfriendly.
